Preface from the Mayor of Chiayi City

Dear members of the WASBE Council and other distinguished representatives,

It is a great honor for me to announce that the WASBE 2011 Conference will be in Chiayi City. In doing this, my heart is filled with tremendous glory and pride.

Since 1993 we have hosted 17 international wind band festivals annually.　In 2000, our city successfully won the hosting rights for the “11th APBDA Band Festival”, Over 300,000 people participated in the concerts, lectures, and other activities. Over the years we have invited bands from the U.S., Canada, France, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Russia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Singapore, Philippines, China, and Malaysia to perform in our city. This festival greatly enhanced the trend of practicing wind music in Taiwan.

Construction may make a city look big, but only culture will make a city great.

The dedication on the part of all music lovers and citizens of our city is the driving force behind our decision to host the WASBE 2011 Conference successfully.
